Café Britt Peru Exports Gourmet Coffee Beans and Chocolates

(LIP-ir) -- Café Britt Peru plans to export this year roasted and packed gourmet coffee beans and chocolates to Uruguay, Argentina and Spain due to the great demand for these products in such countries, reported today the company's general manager, José Vásquez de Velasco.

He stated that Café Britt Peru currently exports to Chile, Curacao, United States and Costa Rica. In 2007, sales registered an 80 percent increase compared with 2006.

This number includes online sales of roasted and packed gourmet coffee beans, chocolates and handicrafts.

Café Britt Peru is a Peruvian company founded with foreign capital, which offers the country’s best gourmet coffee beans and national cacao, as well as handicrafts, souvenirs and high quality textiles made in the country.

Products are sold in its four outlets located in Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport and in the Marriott Hotel.

Vásquez de Velasco added that last year some exports were taken to China, being the first company in selling roasted and packed gourmet coffee to this market, and it is expected to increase coffee exports this year.

Regarding handicraft exports, he pointed out that Café Britt Peru has many suppliers in Cusco, Ayacucho, Piura, Lima, Junín, Ica and Arequipa.

In 2007, Café Britt Peru bought from artisans in these regions products amounting to US$ 1.33 million for export to different markets, Vásquez told Andina news agency.

When you know theres a 200-300% mark-up on everything, you just can't bring yourself to spend the money.

Bad news, 300% - 400% markup is normal for a product bought at retail.

Lucky I don't have the money to buy much then.

Good come back!

A cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts cost about 10 cents for the beans, water, electric, and cup. The rent, ins. taxes and fees are the killer.

You can buy cheap coffee in markets thats the same as "gourmet" coffee back home, the price is a couple of hundred percent less and just as good.

I would suggest that you buy whole beans only unless you want ground coffee filled with fillers and insects.

That's what I do as well. If they don't have whole beans I don't buy anything at all. I have better things to spend money on then ground coffee adulterated with chicory and saw-dust.
