(LIP-ir) -- Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines granted a temporary concession for the construction of Las Lomas Wind Farm.
The park is to be built for the study of wind energy and will have a 240 MW capacity.
It was reported that wind studies would be performed for two years in the city of Huacho, approximately 148 km north of the city of Lima as well as in Chancay, also to the north of the city, said a ministerial resolution published in Peru's official gazette.
The concessionaire is obligated to respect technical and security regulations, protecting the environment and making sure surrounding areas are not damaged.
Wind energy is converted to a useful form of power, such as electricity, by using wind turbines. It is produced in wind farms connected to electrical grids as well as individual turbines.
Wind currently produces just over 1 percent of worldwide electricity use. Its use quadrupled between 2000 and 2006.
