(LIP-ir)  --  Now that U.S. President George W. Bush has signed the 10-month extension of the Andean Trade Preference Act (ATPA), Peruvian exporters can continue taking advantage of the elimination of most tariffs on goods from the Andean country to the U.S.

The trade program is aimed at discouraging Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia from cultivating and producing illegal drugs by allowing the four countries to export most of their goods to the U.S. market duty-free.

The four countries will benefit from the program until the end of 2008.

In a statement made by the press secretary, the brief extension of ATPA will provide time to implement the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and for Congress to take up and approve the U.S.-Colombia FTA.

These free trade deals will provide U.S. businesses, farmers, ranchers, and workers with duty-free access to Peru and Colombia; therefore, replacing one-way access to American markets with permanent, two-way free trade between the nations.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved Wednesday the extension of the ATPA and the bill was passed Thursday by unanimous consent in Senate. One day later, President Bush signed the extension.

Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and the Peruvian Embassy, headed by Felipe Ortiz de Zevallos in Washington D.C., were congratulated for the work done in pushing the bill along.

Minister Araoz affirmed that this gave Peru time to implement the free trade deal with the U.S.

Hey Phillip,
In refrence to link 1, are the number and percentages accurate?  I think when you read about the conditions and education and how many Latin people are left out in comparison to black people, you forget to UNDERSTAND that 37% of latin people in the USA are illegals.  How can this goup of 37% expect equal treatment, living and educations?

Also, are you refering to only MIAMI based information, because the last time I looked, New Jersey, California and Texas all have Excelent Education systems, Awesome Economic leaderships, and not even to mention, these 3 areas have some of the HIGHEST level of LEGAL populations of Latin People.

If you are Spanish and You are LEGAL in the USA, we welcome you.  You have the SAME HEALTH CARE, the SAME Educations and the SAME access to EMPLOYMENT....  If you are Illegal,  well then you have to suffer and just deal with anything you get....  BUT an Illegal will always have food and healthcare-  PAID BY the TAX PAYERS.....

This is so touchy in Subject,  I hope All Latins VOTE for Obama.  We need immagration reform for the USA.

God Bless.

Illegal LOL And what about the US FTA creating poverty in Latin America hence you have created  an illegal immigration  problem in the USA. US  FTA has not helped the Poor People or Farmers in Latin American Countries. FTA is the Rip Off Unfair Trade of the USA LOL.
Many Illegals are now leaving the USA as they are realizing they are not better off. I hope all illegals leave USA just to watch the great US economy collapse when you People realise that no one wishes to do the jobs illegals do? I also hope you Yankee rubish get out of my Country.
As for God blessing me I dont believe in God. I used to live in USA legally until I realised how arrogant they are and hated the way the US Gringo rubbish treated legal Hispanic citizens. And a lot of the places in USA once belonged to Latin America but USA being bullies stole the land from them. First you step on blacks then you step on Hispanics. Well Karma has now stepped on you. There are many  Enemies of the USA. Russia, The Middle East, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, and I pray Ollanta Humala wins the Presidency & Kicks you Yankee rubish out of Peru. When Chavez & Morales kicked out your US Ambassadors I clapped. I pray a lot more Countries unite against USA & Nato. And I am also happy your US Economy as well as Europes Economy is such a Mess. Even China the next World Superpower is watching the US insult them as they are financing the USA it just shows how intelligent your US Goverment is. I hope China also unites the Countries that truly despise the USA & together crash you either in oil trade buisness & Hopefully WAR. I look foward to the US being stepped on.
