(LIP-do) -- Peruvian Prime minister Jorge del Castillo urged mayors of Lima and Callao to focus their efforts in maintaining public order and to organize cultural activities during the APEC and EU-LAC Summits, which will take place in Peru this year. In a meeting with mayors of Peru's capital at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Del Castillo suggested them to organize different activities which involve citizens in the international events. During the meeting, commission members watched a video showing how visitors to the World summits will be welcomed and transported from Jorge Chavez International Airport, in Callao, to their hotels or APEC venues.
Peru is able to ensure security during world summits
(LIP-do) -- Peru is able to ensure strict security during the two world summits to take place in our country, said the chairman of APEC 2008 High Level Commission (CEAN), vice-admiral Luis Giampietri Rojas, who asked not to exaggerate the possible threat posed by certain terrorist groups. He pointed out that although we should not to rule out a hypothetical security threat posed by Peru's Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) or the Bolivian Continental Coordinator (CCB), we cannot “exaggerate” things because Peru has sufficient rapid response capacity to protect civilians and respond to outbreaks of violence. He said that CEAN has coordinated with all the embassies of the APEC member economies to know about their different security concerns and work together to avoid any unpleasant situation. Giampietri said that this climate of security is demonstrated with the carrying out of six APEC meetings attended by over 1,500 delegates.
