Traveling on Peruvian holidays is the absolute worst time to see Peru. Price gouging is out of control and everything is overcrowded. Not to mention increased traffic on already dangerous roadways. I don't recommend doing so unless you have no other choice.

A 40% increase in bus fares does not create much of an incentive to travel on buses now does it? And it will not just stop here with the buses, you also have the hotels, resturants, and other areas of catering to the touristas, and locals. I'm with you Thomas. Not the most valid means of trying to cut expenses by traveling this weekend for sure.

I agree, Benny. Increasing bus fares by 40% is unfair to Peruvians and tourists alike. Maybe I'm not the only one staying in Lima this weekend, although I admit that my choice was unintentional: Not only was I unaware of the weekend holiday, I didn't realize May 1 was a holiday until I woke up and found the streets deserted (call me a naive American).
I posted about this subject today on my blog, An American in Lima, which I link to this site. :)

Hope the pistoleros take the weekend off too.

Hey George please shut your mouth. I have paid off some of the cops that patrol the Pan American and I am only trying to make a living. Have a heart will ya?

Hey, Bandito, my heart bleeds for you, working man. I suppose you pay taxes on that hard-earned income?

Well sure I pay tax on my income George. Only I had to pay tax to the Pan American HWY COPS in advance.Add your comment
