Sofía Mulanovich and Gabriel Villarán were honored as the country's favorite surfers at the Surfing Awards ceremony, which was held at the Maria Anogla Convention Center in Miraflores.

Through the Surfing Awards website, surf fans across the country chose their favorite male and female surfers this year.

Among those competing to be the Andean country's favorite surfers were Gabriel Aramburu, Alexia Jeri, Anali Gomez, Nadja de Col, Toto de Romaña, Gabriel Villaran and many others.

Mulanovich, also known as "La Gringa" in Peru, said she was honored to have been chosen and affirmed that this was a special award for her because she had been nominated by surfers throughout the country.

Sofia, who is taking a short break in Lima from the ASP Women's World Tour, said Peru was a unique country not just because it has the best waves in the world, but because the country has many talented surfers that are gaining worldwide recognition.

After winning the first event in the Women's World Tour and coming in second place in the second event, Mulanovich is currently ranked number one in the world.
