(LIP-do) -- President of the Cuzco Region, Hugo Gonzales Sayán, stated today that he's looking to meet with the delegates of the V European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean (EU-LAC) Summit which began today. He seeks to discuss investment projects for the the Imperial city.
"We will try to establish contact with the authorities, especially the European Union, to discuss the investment projects we have here and which could prove to be of interest to them," he told Andina News.
He assured them that the mood in Cusco was a calm one and that the city was working towards better security, as was Machu Picchu, which some of the delegates have been scheduled to visit.
"We want to receive them with the most hospitality. A representative of Surinam, the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk and Benita Ferreo of the European Union have all confirmed their visit to Cuzco. More will arrive on Saturday and Sunday," he confirmed.
He stated that the officials will arrive by air to Cusco and from the airport they will take helicopters to Machu Picchu, where a special welcome is being organized.
"We will welcome them with all the necessary utilities, such as special vehicles to climb the citadel from Aguas Calientes (town in Machu Picchu), without intrusion from other tourists," he emphasized.
Sayán insisted that the city's security, implemented by X Territorial Police, will offer a good image of Cuzco to the world.
