Octavio Salazar, head of Peru's national police affirmed on Friday afternoon that the security plan designed by authorities for the EU-LAC summit has proven to be an effective one, providing positive results and running smoothly.

Salazar explained that the best evidence that this was so, was the fact that there had not been any disturbances or altercations during the international summit.

He added that even though "The People's Summit" had been taking place since May 13, there had not been any problems in the city.

"We are at both events; officers are providing the necessary security measures so that both events take place with absolute peace. We don't have any altercations because everything has been handled conveniently," said the head of Peru's national police.

He explained that there were over 40,000 police officers in the city of Lima making sure summits ran smoothly.

"We also have police personnel providing internal and external protection at the 14 VIP hotels. We've taken a series of measures to reduce risks," Salazar said.

To further prove that Peru's police are doing en efficient job, it was reported that two suspects - on separate occasions - were detained in the past days for suspicious and illegal behavior.

The first case involved Herbert Enrique Diaz, a former Air Force major that was detained for driving around the perimeter of the National Museum in a vehicle with fake license plates.

Diaz was immediately taken into custody and is being questioned.

The other case involves Wilder Diaz Rojas, a 31-year-old man that was caught with explosives in the shape of an envelope. He too has been taken into custody and is being questioned.
