Police in Arequipa took a 33-year-old taxi driver into custody after finding incriminating evidence in his possession linking him to the rape and murder of Tamar Shahak. State penitentiary officials confirmed to Yedioth Aharonoth that police investigators had uncovered an olive-drab backpack seemingly identical to the one Shahak had been carrying in the possession of Manuel Alberto Chavez, a 33-year-old taxi driver from in the southern Peruvian city of Arequipa. Moody's Could Raise Peru's Debt Rating This Year, Leos Says
Moody's Investors Service may raise Peru's foreign-currency debt rating as early as the second half of this year as surging growth enables the Andean country to trim foreign debt, said Moody's sovereign debt analyst Mauro Leos. Getty Exhibition Unites Manuscripts From Peru
Two illuminated manuscripts of extraordinary importance, along with books, prints, maps, watercolors, and photographs that illustrate the history and culture of Peru will be on display in The Marvel and Measure of Peru: Three Centuries of Artists’ Histories, 1550–1880, at the Getty Research Institute, the Getty Center, July 8–October 19, 2008. Peruvian president offers condolences to victims of China's deadly quake
Peruvian President Alan Garcia visited the Chinese embassy here on Monday to express his condolences to victims of the massive earthquake that hit China's southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. Peruvian exports to the European Union (EU) reached 1.12 billion dollars in the first quarter of the year, while 64 percent of which were concentrated by Spain, Italy and Netherlands.
