Peru's president Alan Garcia praised the Andean country and its representatives on Tuesday morning, one day after it was announced that the country's poverty index had dropped more than 5 percent since 2007.
He assured that this was a sign that the country's economy was being administered well and was on the right path.
Furthermore, a proud Garcia assured that by 2015, the poverty index would be under 10 percent.
"This is good news that shows good direction and guidance as well as good social and economic models. If we keep this up poverty will decrease again in 2008 and again in 2009," affirmed the Head of State.
"My ambition goes further, and in 2015 poverty levels will be below 10 percent."
Garcia stated that the country's poverty rate had decreased 5.2 percent, explaining this meant that over 1.3 million Peruvians were no longer poor.
Moreover, to show that Peru's economy was doing better, President Garcia announced that the country would sign a free trade deal with Canada on Thursday as well as a commercial agreement with Singapore.
