Impossible for Madonna to include Peru in her Latin America tour

Living in Peru
Israel J. Ruiz

It would be impossible for Madonna to come to Lima on her Latin America tour, which is to begin in December, said Jorge Fernandez, an entrepreneur in the entertainment business at Show S.A. company.

Fernandez assured that it was not likely for the Queen of Pop to make an appearance in Lima due to the fact that she charges approximately $4 million per concert.

He explained that this amount could not be raised in a concert in Lima even if the National Stadium were filled to its full capacity.

"I am aware that a group of businessmen have come together to try and get the money but they themselves know that producing this event in Peru is a utopia. We don't even have a decent stage or good sound equipment to host a show like the one Madonna will put on in her new world tour," said Fernandez to Terra News.

According to Terra, the experienced producer said that the Andean country would be ready for a concert of this magnitude next year.

"We need more places to host events, more companies that provide sound, lights and scenery. After taxes were reduced things have taken off, that's why now there is more demand than offer and that is hurting us," explained the producer.

Madonna, who was ranked the "Best Selling Female Rock Artist of the Twentieth Century" by the Recording Industry Association of America, is scheduled to perform in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico near the end of this year.

Listen Peru. If you want me to perform in your country I want $4million and I don't want to pay taxes. I'm sorry, but those are my terms. Do you people even care or realise that I have bills to pay? At the very least you could give me some of your babies.

So, let me get this straight.  Based on an earlier article, people thought Peru could host the Olympics in 2016, but can't get it together for a rock concert now?

I tried to bring the price down for Peru through my nephew Pancho who works for the Brazilian company that is bringing Madonna to Latin America. However this is not possible, there are no 'discounts' for big tours, either you take it or leave it. Sorry, folks...

As a comparison Shakira charged aprox $1.2 million for her tour to Peru last year.

By the way Pancho is organizing the wrestling match to the National Stadium in Lima on July 3rd. That should be fun - and the tickets a bit cheaper than Madona, ha ha ha!

31 August, 2008 [ 20:16 ]

Good point Isa.
It is a little known fact that Las Malvinas have been part of Argentina for tens of thousands of years, in fact, San Martin lived there in 400 B.C.
The evil British came an ethnically cleansed hundreds of millions of Argentinos from those islands. Mass graves are found across the islands. After killing everyone, they brought in a few thousand British people who want to remain part of Britain and made up a fake history (Something about Argentina only existing in the past century and the islands being ignored by the Spanish and discovered by the Dutch). They put this fake history in all the world's encylopedias and changed the name of the islands to Fakeland Ireland.

Dave if you were not born in Peru I understand that the taste to Inca Kola will not develop on you, as for many of us Coca Cola is to sweet. About Barranco having old buildings: It is a part of our history, It was the first place where the Chileans arrived long ago while the word betwen Peru and chile. Barranco is a historical place that has been beautiful remodeled trying to keep the city with an old look.

# Stuart says :
1 September, 2008 [ 13:26 ]

I think someone was trying to make the point that Inca Kola was invented by a Brit and the Barranco's old homes, or what remain of them were built by British immigrants.

As for Las Malvinas, they really belong to the Dutch!
The Dutch saw them and claimed them but didn't colonise them. The Spanish were nowhere to be seen... they didn't want them. Argentina is only a very modern creation. The British claimed and inhabited what they called the "Falklands" before Argentina even existed, making their claim very weak. Personally, I think it is up to those who live there what country they want to be part of.

During the war, the US heavily protected Argentina. A conflict zone was established, outside which the US declared that Britain could not fight. This meant no attacks on the mainland and no bombing of Buenos Aires. The US has had a declaration for a couple of centuries that no European power will enlarge its territorial claims in the Americas, and a British attacks on the mainland were a bit no-no.

If Argentina can claim the Falklands, I think Peru should claim the Filipinas and Brazil should claim the Azores.

Stuart, the Inka Cola was invented by a British  Immigrant. Don't give a credit to the British itselfs, or otherwise  I will not credit the Nobel prices  American have won. Most of the Novel prices were won by the Jew smart people. Also The gold medals are won by people with foreign names and AFRO Americans.  Not 100% Americans. So finally you will have nothing left !
About USA maken sure that Buenos Aires will not be bombed...how humanitarian! Why they did not rebuild Panama after they destroyed the city in December 1989 . Why Americans  should keep themselves where they belong to. Not only where is petroleum. Say again US heavely protected ARGENTINA ? yes as much as protected Vietnam  and Korea.

# Stuart says :
1 September, 2008 [ 15:41 ]

Hi Phillip, yes, Argentina claiming Wales would make just as much sense. Argentina can't "have back" what was never theirs. Argentina didn't exist in the days when Britain claimed the Malvinas. I think the islanders should decide. Personally, I hope no-one nukes anyone.

Isa, I have little to say to defend the actions of the United States in Latin America which has mostly been negative. You are very right in your sarcasm... the United States usually considers Latin America its door mat and that is the reason it doesn't let others have influence or fight a war here.

Argentine claim to the Islas Malvinas
Luis Vernet
Luis Vernet
The "Malvinas" as claimed by Argentina, as part of the Tierra del Fuego province
The "Malvinas" as claimed by Argentina, as part of the Tierra del Fuego province

Argentina declared its independence from Spain in 1816, although this was not then recognised by any of the major powers.

The new nation (United Provinces of the River Plate) was formed from former provinces of the Viceroyalty of the River Plate and as such claimed sovereignty over the Falklands. In October 1820, the frigate Heroína under the command of American privateer Colonel David Jewett arrived in Puerto Soledad following an 8 month voyage and with most of her crew incapacitated by scurvy and disease. A storm had resulted in severe damage to the Heroína and had sank the prize Carlota forcing Jewett to put into Puerto Soledad for repairs. The captain chose to rest and recover in the islands seeking assistance from the British explorer James Weddell. Weddell reports only 30 seamen and 40 soldiers out of a crew of 200 fit for duty, and how Jewett slept with pistols over his head following an attempted mutiny. On 6 November 1820, Jewett raised the flag of the United Provinces of the River Plate and claimed possession of the islands. Weddell reports the letter he received from Jewett as:[7]

Sir, I have the honor of informing you that I have arrived in this port with a commission from the Supreme Government of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata to take possession of these islands on behalf of the country to which they belong by Natural Law. While carrying out this mission I want to do so with all the courtesy and respect all friendly nations; one of the objectives of my mission is to prevent the destruction of resources necessary for all ships passing by and forced to cast anchor here, as well as to help them to obtain the necessary supplies, with minimum expenses and inconvenience. Since your presence here is not in competition with these purposes and in the belief that a personal meeting will be fruitful for both of us, I invite you to come aboard, where you'll be welcomed to stay as long as you wish; I would also greatly appreciate your extending this invitation to any other British subject found in the vicinity; I am, respectfully yours. Signed, Jewett, Colonel of the Navy of the United Provinces of South America and commander of the frigate Heroína.

Many modern authors report this letter as the declaration issued by Jewett.[8] Weddell did not believe that Jewett was acting with the interests of the United Provinces in mind, rather Jewett had merely put into the harbour in order to obtain refreshments for his crew, and that the assumption of possession was chiefly intended for the purpose of securing an exclusive claim to the wreck of the French ship Uranie that had a few months previously foundered at the entrance of Berkeley Sound. Weddell left the islands on 20 November 1820 noting that Jewett had not completed repairs to the Heroína.

In 1823 the Argentines granted land on East Falkland to Luis Vernet, who first travelled to the islands in 1824. The first expedition failed almost as soon as it landed, and the second attempt, in 1826, sanctioned by the British (and delayed until Winter by a Brazilian blockade), arrived, but was also unsuccessful. In 1828 Vernet was granted all of East Falkland including all its resources, and exempted him from taxation if a colony could be established within three years. He took settlers, including British Captain Matthew Brisbane, and before leaving once again sought permission first from the British Consulate in Buenos Aires. The British asked for a report for the British government on the islands, and Vernet asked for British protection should they return.[9]

On Vernet's return, Puerto Soledad was renamed Puerto Luis. Vernet was appointed governor in 1829, an action to which the British objected as it was an attempt by the Argentine government to foster its political and economic ties to the islands. One of Vernet's first acts was to curb seal hunting on the Islands to conserve the dwindling seal population. In response the British consul in Buenos Aires protested the move and restated the UK's claim. Islanders were born during this period (including Malvina María Vernet y Saez, Vernet's daughter).[9]

Vernet later seized the US ship, Harriet, for breaking his restrictions on seal hunting. Property on board the ship was seized and the captain was returned to Buenos Aires to stand trial. The American Consul in Argentina protested against the actions by Vernet, stating that the United States did not recognise Argentine sovereignty in the Falklands. The consul dispatched a warship, USS Lexington, to Port Louis to retake the confiscated property.

In 1831 the colony was successful enough to be advertising for new colonists, although, the Lexington's report suggests that the conditions on the islands were quite miserable[10][11]. The captain of the Lexington destroyed the Argentine settlement at Port Louis.[9] On leaving, the captain declared the islands to be res nullius (free of all government) and returned to Montevideo. Darwin's visit in 1833 confirmed the squalid conditions in the settlement, although Captain Matthew Brisbane[12] (Vernet's deputy) later claimed that this was the result of the Lexington raid. Governor Vernet returned to Buenos Aires after the attack but appointed an interim governor, Esteban José Francisco Mestivier, who arrived with his family to Port Louis on the schooner Sarandí in October 1832[9].

After this the Sarandí, commanded by captain José María Pinedo, went to patrol the surrounding seas. But as they returned to Port Louis on 29 December 1832, they found the colony in uproar. In Pinedo's absence there had been a mutiny led by a man named Gomila; Mestivier had been murdered and his wife raped. The captain of the French vessel Jean Jacques had meanwhile provided assistance disarming and incarcerating the mutineers. Pinedo dispatched the mutineers to Buenos Aires with the British schooner Rapid. Gomila himself would be condemned to exile, while six other mutineers were executed.

On 2 January 1833, Captain John Onslow arrived and delivered a written request that Pinedo lower the Argentine flag in favour of the British one, and that the Argentine administration leave the islands. Pinedo asked if there had been a war declared between Argentina and Great Britain, and Onslow replied there was none. Nonetheless, Pinedo, heavily outmanned and outgunned, chose to leave the islands under protest. The Argentines also claim that the population of the Port Louis was expelled at the same time, though sources from time appear to dispute this, suggesting that the colonists were encouraged to remain under Vernet's deputy, Matthew Brisbane.[9]

Pinedo faced military trial and was suspended for four months and transferred to the land army, until he was called back to the navy in 1845. An open conflict with France and Great Britain, including a long Anglo-French blockade on Buenos Aires, prevented the Argentines from sending any expeditions to the islands, but they never renounced their claim to sovereignty.

Islas Malvinas  belongs to Argentina.   Brits should go home & return the  Malvinas to Argentina.

>>LOL, Phillip, I have to thank you for the many chuckles your posts provide.

First, off, Russia is lucky they don't nuke themselves, much less someone else.

Secondly, 70% of the Falklands population is of British descent, most were born there, but if you are so interested in taking over the Falklands, and correcting this massive injustice against Argentenia, might I suggest you put together a coalition of South American nations to combat the British imperialists and take them back.

Who knows, maybe all the military force of South America could manage to hold onto the Falklands for a week or so...that is until the Brits get there.

Then again, Chile and Argentina have a land dispute, Chile and Bolivia have land disputes, Peru and Ecuador have land disputes, etc., so maybe a coaliton won't work.  Don't they know how to draw up borders and negotiage treaties in South America?  Or is that all the fault of the big bad white man, too?

I hate to be the one to break it to you there, little guy, but when it comes to war, justice is on the side of the victor.  When the Brits routed the Argentines, they should have counted themselves extremely lucky that the United States intervened and restrained the Brits from sacking Buenos Aires.

Well said!!! Those filthy Brits have been cause of all the worlds problems. They are disgust me. You just have to look at their history to see the sickening things they have done and even admit to it.

You never catch the Spanish doing any such thing.

How can you not love Madonna? I have been so fascinated with her since I was in my early teens! She changes and swings to the tune of each progressing song and era with such ease...It's Great! I got my floor tickets for her concert here in Boston last week (and I didn't think it was a bad price? $250 for Floor?) from http://www.esellout.com/ResultsGeneral.aspx?kwds=Madonna in case anyone else is looking to see her! I have now seen her in person four times...She was awesome each time!!! I hope she continues to tour for years to come but I always dread the day she stops...

Madonna forever! - Sarah

Madonna does not wish to go to Peru, Who cares there are plenty better  celebreties that visit Peru.  We also have our own talent in Peru.   So Madonna not visiting Peru on tour is truly  no loss to Peru.

The trajectory of these posts: Madonna not coming to Peru, whether or not Peruvians have the money to pay the price of admission if she were coming to Peru, whether or not people should see this over-priced pop star whose talents are negligible, the Malvinas/Falkland Islands (someone once said that war was like two old bald guys fighting over a comb), Russia, China, how the US sucks, the resident imbecile hoping Boston gets nuked by the Russians, and finally, on what would be a non-sequitur if there is such a thing on these pages ... a link to naughty Turkish lingerie!!! I love it.
