Peru: Cusco's Inti Raymi to be translated into English, French & Spanish

In an effort to provide local and foreign tourists with a unique opportunity to learn more about the Inca religious ceremonies, this year’s Inti Raymi Festival at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress in Cusco will be translated into French, English and Spanish.

The head of Cusco’s Municipal Office of Festivities, Ismael Zuta, explained that simultaneous interpretation devices will be available to people who pay for their admission to the main Inti Raymi ceremony at Sacsayhuaman.

Zuta mentioned that the Inti Raymi or “Festival of the Sun” which is conducted in Quechua-Peru's main indigenous language- will be simultaneously interpreted into English, French and Spanish.

He clarified that 859 interpretation receivers will be available only to those who have paid to occupy a seat to witness the Inti Raymi festival held on June 21. The cost of the ticket is 90 dollars.

”Interpreters will be located at strategic points of the Sacsayhuaman esplanade. Simultaneous interpretation will be broadcast over three local radio stations. Visitors wishing to listen to the ceremony in French will choose the frequency that offers this option, " he told Andina news agency.

Zuta pointed out that the development of this initiative came at the request of the audience and because there many foreign tourists who come to this event and do not understand Quechua nor Spanish.

He said that the visitors, after paying his ticket for admission, will be given informational brochures , a script summary of Inti Raymi, a DVD and other informational materials.

The staging of Inti Raymi will take place at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress and expects to receive some 110 thousand people, between local and foreign tourists.

Just returned from a fantastic holiday in Peru and was fortunate to be in Cusco on the 24th June Inti Raymi celebrations.
I tried to buy a DVD of the celebrations and thought I had, a DVD by a company called Niiba productions. Frankly I could have done better with an 8mm camera, it is truly awful. Might I suggest that this type of thing is made by proffesionals and go for a quality market, rather than for tourists to buy it cheap only to be dissapointed when they get home. Incidently, if you do know where I can get a decent DVD of the Inti Raymi in the UK, I would be very grateful.
