Peru: Photo of the day - Cusco prepares for Inti Raymi

In preparation for the Inti Raymi festival, which is to be held tomorrow, thousands of people gathered at the city’s main square for a colorful parade. Festivities are to be held all week long in honor of "Inti", the Sun God. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world will be at tomorrow’s celebration, which is held on the Winter Solstice of the Southern Hemisphere.

They seem to have been invented int he 1950's by some company who mass produced them and now people think they are "traditional" LOL
First of all, no woman who have dared to wear a short skirt before the 1920's, they would have been thrown in prison for indecent exposure or been called a prostitute.

If you look at photograph of Indians before World War II, you will notice that all of the costumes are completely different. Women have long skirts, and they don't wear "bowler" hats ... which also seem to have been mass produced and sold in the 1950's and adopted by Indian women at that time...

So much for traditional LOL  It's more like 1950's cheap costumes...Pr

LOL Looks like the Indians invented the custom of wearing two hats..
a style that was popular with ganster-types back in the 1990's haha
