Peru's Alan Garcia drops even further in polls

A survey done by the Public Opinion Institute for Católica University revealed that President Garcia's approval rate in the country is among all time lows.

Polls showed that 62 percent of those surveyed affirmed they did not approve of President Alan Garcia's administration.

It was reported that only 31 percent of those polled stated they approved of the work Garcia was doing.

According to Terra News, of those that disapproved of the Peruvian president's administration, 57 percent were males while 68 percent were reported to be females.

The three main reasons citizens stated they did not approve of the APRA administration were an increase in staple foods (25%), not keeping campaign promises (12%) and administering the country badly (7%).

In statements made Friday, President Garcia stated it was natural that his popularity decrease because of an increase in the cost of food.

He explained that 50 percent of the country's inflation was due to global issues such as the increase in the cost of oil and wheat.

Garcia sided with farmers and consumers telling reporters that it was understandable that they were upset because their livelihoods were being affected.

It is absolutely non sense of responsability for a country's governor to blame the decrease in rates to the cost of food. This country is very rich in natural resources oil, natural gas, gold, silver, iron, forests and fauna, which has increased in value more than five times just in the last five years raising the reserves with lot of money. In spite of these facts the has not been enough efforts to increase the education level and healthy of the population, nor key investments to prepare them for the coming challenges. I believe the results responds to the president and congress incapacity to take advantage of the booming market for the population benefit.

Cry me a river my fellow peruvians. Cry me a river and go drown yourself in it. You have never had it so good. Funny how some of us expect to go from rags to riches in under 10 years - the country was on its knees at the beginning of the year 2000 and now we are doing so well that any expectations of the peruvian economy are always surpassed. Have some patience for god's sake.

Victor, I disagree with part of your comment. President Garcia is caught in a whirlwind of high food and oil prices. You are right about Peru's rich mineral resources. Unfortunately we export these materials to Asia and India where they reap the benefits of making these raw materials into goods that are resold at a higher value.Peru needs to make agreements with the worlds exporters of Grains. Canada, Australia, Argentina and the U.S.. Peru needs to demand stable prices for these goods in exchange for a fair price for our raw materials.Peru needs to wean itself off Oil imports and switch to Gas or electric vehicles to insure a stable economy. As for the health, education systems, the President has to fight the unions to get any kind of improvements.I think if Peruvians put aside there differences and help the President in his endeavors the people as a whole will be better off. The consequences are much worse if we change direction in mid stream. Chau Friend

Alan Garcia should no be president of Peru. Unfortunately, the other choice was Humala. A corrupt politician that came back from the grave to lead a country after he shamefully handled the country in the 80's, should be facing the same perils as president Fujimori. We need new blood in politics, we also need the someone who is commited to work for the well being of the less fortunate and make sure that the young people of the country are well educated. All I see with Garcia is personal ambition, he should retire to sip wine in France for good. A president like Odria, would be a good choice for the future of Peru.

We need Keiko Fujimori to continue the great economic work that Alberto Fujimori started in the 90's. The fujishock was like open-heart surgery on a dying patient. The operation was well done. The patient - PERU- survived and its economy only improved after that. The inflation was lowered during Fujimori's presidency. We owe it to Fujimori: his government lowered inflation and stabililized our economy. Toledo did an OK job by keeping the plan Fujimori started. Alan is now just harvesting the fruits. But Alan's first government was responsible for the highest inflation in Peruvian history.

I think the increase of prices at the super market is not really the reason for Garcia's lack of approval.

If he would be way less arrongant... (and this goes for his Prime Minister Del Castillo) people would look up to them...

Also, if the govermental party would be more careful keeping the corruption away from their desks, that would definitely help too...

Last but not least, we all have to agree that the media is definitely not helping a whole lot...  Now should be the time for EVERYONE to push the car in the same direction, but most of the news channels are really having a great time spreading the negative vibe around...  some times I think these individuals are intruders trying to stop the good that is taking place.... otherwise I just find it very hard to understand.

I dont think I ask for a whole lot here...

Rice and Sugar,

I wonder if Keiko will kill innocent and guilty alike, as her father did..only exchanging one form of terrorism for another.

I guess like some others, Rice, as long as you or someone you loved was not the innocents killed, you dont care..thank God most Peruvians are better than you.
