In operations that have taken place throughout Peru this year, the country's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) has confiscated 781 slot machines made for minors, reported the head of MINCETUR's Casino department, Manuel San Román.
543 of the gambling devices for children were confiscated from districts in Lima and Callao such as San Martín de Porres, Los Olivos, Pachacamac, Villa María Del Triunfo, La Victoria, Carmen De La Legua, Puente Piedra, Barranco, Breña, San Miguel, San Juan de Lurigancho, Cercado, Rímac, Comas and Santiago de Surco.
The other 238 machines were taken from Cañete - Quilmana, Huancayo, Oxapampa, Cajamarca and Trujillo, reported MINCETUR.
According to ministry reports, 1,665 machines made for minors in Peru were seized from July 2007 to June 2008 while 2,433 were confiscated from July 2006 to June 2007.
Authorities highlighted that the machines were being used less in the Andean country.
San Román asked Peru's people to call 513-6100 extension 9000 or send an e-mail to
casinos@mincetur.gob.pe if they knew of anyone using slot machines that targeted minors.
