Colombia's ambassador to Peru, Alvaro Pava, confirmed Sunday the visit of Colombia's vice president Francisco Santos Calderón (right) to the country on August 26 to sign a bilateral agreement to combat drug use and strengthen the anti-drug strategy.
"It is a shared responsibility agreement on the drug issue. The visit of Colombia's vice president is confirmed and he will provide further details about the agreement", ambassador Pava told Andina.
Pava anticipated the bilateral agreement would contain "a very important and novel mechanism" that will help both countries' struggle against drug addiction.
Thus, he highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations because Colombia and Peru have various agreements on mutual cooperation and information exchange to combat illegal drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorism.
"This is an issue that has nothing to do with drug production, but with consumption, which is a matter of great concern to us. The consumption of drugs is an issue that is gradually affecting our countries and we have not paid enough attention to it before", Pava added.
