Due to a lack of support from the Peruvian Sports Institute, Martin Seminario, Peru's Pan American chess champion and his father have been forced to take to the streets and ask strangers for money.# Jorge A. Meneses M says :

How can we not help our champs????????
Are the authorities in Peru so insensitive to help this family?????
It really mortifies me to read this news.
How can we, Peruvians and not Peruvians in the US, help and send $ ?
Is there a bank account???
Is it US$ or PE S/ needed?????
Please some one, revert to me.
Gracias
Jorge

Our own Mulanovich is sponsored by Quicksilver. Barry Bonds endorsed Nike, Fila, Topps trading cards + many others still and in the past. Many soccer players receive support from Adidas, Wilson, etc. Professional skateboarders endorse their own apparel and equipment companies.
I don't think the problem is lack of support, sounds more like marketability of chess in Peru. Maybe they could hit up an outside source such as:
http://www.thechessstore.com/
or perhaps there is a good clue here:

It is always the same story, it has been since the IPD (Instituto Peruano del Deporte) was created.
Ironically IPD was created to promote and direct all amateur sports in Peru. A good idea but never worked.
To my knowledge only football gets support, the other sports that have real champs and bring medals and trophys get none.
Let's set up an account, the solidarity of Peruvians will help this little chess champ, hope he does great in Vietnam.

I'm from Cusco Peru! Love the place I was born and I feel very deeply the shortcomings of our useless goverment.
I would like to rise enough money to help this young champion whos dream is to go to Vietnam. For this I need a way of contacting the father and the child. I will presume that their plea is genuine. I hope I can count with their honesty and their sincerity.
I can be reach at tania2160@yahoo.com.
Good luck to the little one!

If Isarael Ruiz, the author of this article, was trying to gain support for young Martin, it would have been a good idea to add contact information. I would love to help as so many would, it saddens me that this is such a great opportunity, the child got press, he has support and people that would like to help him, yet he cannot be reached. I will look into it more to see how I can get a hold of them.
If anyone finds out before I do please post the information.
Thank you and I hope to see Peru on the international chess news in the near future!!

Just one clarification, above I found the contact for the Rotary Club in Lima over the INternet.
I am not yet aware if Rotary Club is helping this kid, I just thought, that if anyone wants to write to Rotary Club to get support for Martin. I wrote them myself already. Good luck to him.

Unfortunately, no contact information was published in Peruvian newspapers. Maybe the daily's that wrote these stories will be able to help.

We live in Belgium and would like to contribute to their trips. Please could you send us the details to get in touch with Martin's parents to send a contribution?
Many thanks.
