Peru's new Prime Minister announces anti-corruption plan

The presentation of an anti-corruption plan, which will force public employees to present reports on the activities they do inside the public sector, was announced Wednesday by the Head of Council of Ministers, Yehude Simon.

"I will present the plan in the next hours and I hope it will be approved (…) this new plan must be a step to improve the fight against corruption".

President Alan García, himself has said he agreed with the presentation of this plan, amid the resignation of the former Cabinet due to alleged corrupt negotiations concerning an oil concession, stated Simon.

The head of the Council of Ministers said the plan will include regulations so that "every public figure" shows their work performance as part of their duties.

Simon has already discussed the topic with legislators of different benches and with the Comptroller General of the Republic of Peru, Genaro Matute, who has expressed his support for this anti-corruption plan.

This could indeed be very interesting, but on the other hand, it could just be "smoke & mirrors" as usual. I wish them well in cleaning up their act and hope that it will be of some benefit to the public, not just pollies images.
