President Alan García, his wife Pilar Nores, and the King and Queen of Spain Juan Carlos I and Sofía, arrived at noon in the city of Trujillo, La Libertad, to attend a number of official activities.
Peru’s president and the King and Queen of Spain, who traveled on a Spanish Air Force plane, landed in Trujillo airport on the second day of the royal couple’s official visit to Peru.
King Juan Carlos and Sofia were welcomed by the La Libertad governor, José Murgia Zannier; and the mayor of Trujillo, César Acuña Peralta.
At the airport, the royal couple received the highest honors and then headed to Chan Chan archaeological complex.
Later, they will visit the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), the Regional Government’s headquarters, the Municipality, and the Huaca de la Luna.
The royal couple’s visit to the archaeological complex is held one day after Spanish chancellor, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, handed over a first lot of 45 Precolombian gold and copper objects out of a total of 253, seized in Spain in 2007.
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia will also visit the Gerardo Chávez Contemporary Art Museum, where president Garcia and his wife will offer a lunch to honor the royal couple.
