PeruRail to halt service due to November strike

Peruvian train company PeruRail, which operates Cusco-Machu Picchu and Cusco-Puno routes, announced Thursday the suspension of its services due to a farmers' strike called for November 4, 2008.

A PeruRail press release explained that this decision was taken to ensure the safety of passengers and workers.

PeruRail affirmed it would completely suspend its service until this indefinite strike ends and safety conditions improve.

PeruRail, which provides tourists transportation to the town of Machu Picchu, noted that trips will be rescheduled or refunds will be made at the request of tourists.

I've got to say I've never seen a country with so many strikes that seems to get little to nothing done!

Either the striking union give in to soon or the company/government they are striking against goes back on there word.

AT what point will the companies/government start to realize they are losing money and that a change is needed?

When will the striking Peruvians realize that income from foreign tourists is a major source of income for the Peruvian treasury. These strikes simply will deplete the foreign reserves much quicker which will adversely affect the lives of the people striking much faster and more harshly than the so-called folks with money. Probably too 'complicated' for these folks to understand and 'their' leaders & politicans will not explain the facts of life. How terribly sad!

Very stupid,

Imagine a German or American tourist who saved for a year or three to make this trip, come to Peru and can not see Machu Pichu due to protests or strikes.

They will go home and tell their friends and family and Peru will loose money that will probably never be recovered.

Most strikes and protests here are not really a result of whatever issue is at hand, but shadowed by Ollente's goons to stir up trouble and most of the protesters and just puppets.

Sadly the intellectually challenged people of Peru have done it again!
When the tourists warn their family and friends not to go to peru then tourism will suffer. Maybee after a long period of no tourism, some of the galacticly stupid people of Peru will wake up and realize that tourism is a source of revenue. Sadly the Peruvians are lazy, stupid, and self destructive.
