Peruvian hairless dog offered to Obama’s family

An offer of a Peruvian hairless dog has been made to the family of Barack Obama, whose daughter Malia suffers from pet allergies.
 
A hairless Peruvian dog will be offered as a pet to the family of the president-elect of the United States.
 
Claudia Galvez, president of the Association of Friends of Hairless Peruvian Dogs in Lima reported that tomorrow she will send a letter to the Peruvian Embassy in Washington, D.C., to inquire if the new president is ready to give shelter to a symbol of Peru.

“The hairless dogs are hypoallergenic, do not have fleas, have no hair, and, furthermore, have been known to cure inflammatory diseases such as asthma, arthritis and rheumatism,” said Galvez to the agency EFE.

Galvez was inspired to make the offer in response to Obama’s statement last Friday about the importance of selecting the right pet for his family due to his daughter’s allergies.

The Peruvian hairless dog, the only one of pre-Hispanic origin in South America, is devoid of hair resulting from a syndrome known as ectodermal hypoplasia. The dogs also lack premolars and lose most of their teeth at an early age.

I think the dog is a great offer, they are sweet dogs even if a bit odd to the touch. I would hope, however, they do not offer it as an unsubstantiated medical cure as I am sure that the FDA would take issue with having it presented as such.

I am not saying there may or may not be some theroputic benefit, but to be presented without medical evidence will be looked upon with suspicion.

I just recently got a Peruvian dog....we've had 8 dogs all our lives and this is the best and most intelligent dog ever. The dog is able to sleep with my daughter since he has absolutely no hair (she has severe chronic allergies) He is warm to the touch, extremely good with children and very obedient.

I think any reasonably educated person would laugh at the statement that the dog cures disease.  Unless he got his degree at Johns Hopkins.

There is plenty of evidence that pets help relieve stress (which can promote healing), but c'mon now.  Don't be so supersitious people, it just makes you look bad.

I don't think Mericorps is to far off base when it comes to agencies like the FDA. The FDA states unequivocally that only a drug can cure so anything that is natural and "cures" must be a drug and therefore regulated!

On another note I called one of the forum members on Sunday and suggested that she contact the local news outlets and offer up one of the hairless dogs that she breeds. She has imported several from Peru and breeds them in NJ. Anyone looking for more information can check out her web site at valleyviewkennels.net

Yes Yes Yes!!!- this nice Peruvian stripper dog for mister future president -I am really very happy that a lot of you are so exited to promote our country .  
If I have some fans here - cant we make a donation for the dog- and addicional I would put the news from today right around his neck-(Peru21, el Comercio, La Republica, others )  
(news about  "petrogate and 5 former ministers who are invited to declare" and finaly also the secretary from president Garcia , news about our army chief who is ask also to declare to Justice for possible involment in some illigal business, news about some Mobs who prostitute kids, news about our new minister who recomended his stuff and ministers not to speak by phone important things.

By the way- and this only from a very neutral position-
I found it very interesting that actual prime minister Simon wants the press present douring his declarations in front of commisiion - sounds not so bad- 
It seem to be a sign of clearness- But anyhow Like in movie"Gilda"- in her song  "but the blame on me" if I am wrong here later on.  
I found it also intersting that untill know noone from our lovly fujifans/political representantes  was in the Petro suits or is acused to have some kind of business with fugitive Leon- not even one- also from many other parties.
Mister Humala wants earlier elections- some news titles told us today.
(I also want many things- human nature is about wanting)  - I have nothing personal against mister Humala which we might seen sooner in charge than expected- 
But even under this circumstances that He might be the next-this one brave cuestion -  I am deeply interested- What he was up with mister Leon? Did they really met each other several times to deal about what?- and if it is true that mister Leon almost become a congressmen in his party or are this only rumors - he owns Peru an answer on this one- Before he becomes eventual comander in chief here. 
True - clear and nacked like our obama donation dog-

It's such a great idea that the peruvian people offered Mr. Obama a peruvian hairless dog.

The fact that it has no hair just tells that it won't have any dust or any microorganism (on it) that could cause allergies because it has no hair!

You don't have to be medician or work on the FDA for knowing that.

I have a Peruvian Hairless dog and although there is no "scientific proof" I can tell you that there also is "no scientific proof" for alot of meds out there who people are using and are not even approved by fda or wait....they are some of them....and 2 years down the line they are recalled and the pharmaceuticals are sued and if you have cancer from using that drug..."please call the number on your tv screen"
I know that this dog can cure because it has in my family for centuries. Our great grandparents used this dog for arthritis and joint issues and each time it worked...my daughter had severe allergies and now they are gone. Now keep in mind that back then there were no meds available and for years many of us had to rely on home made remedies of all kinds to heal and they do work. The problem is that we rely on prescription meds for everything and long forgotten are home made remedies...no wonder many doubt, who'd know nowadays that most scientist have gotten their formula from home made remedies and simply put them in form of a pill.

Jenine;

Don't be ignorant.  Drugs that unintentionally cause harm are tested plenty, but it is difficult to test something in large human trials.  And frankly, while other serious conditions have been noted, none have caused cancer as far as I know.

All of that IS scientific proof.  That is, the drug was found to have an affect on a population with certainty (good and bad).

The problem with MANY herbs and homeopathic remedies is that there is NO scientific evidence - no affect at all.  Folklore and anecdotal evidence do not count as evidence, as the environment they are taken in is not controlled with all things taken into account.

That being said, there are herbs and homeopathic remedies known, scientifically, to work.  And I use 'em.
