At 2:49 a.m., the district of Ucayali was hit with an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale. Then, 22 minutes later, the region near Ancash was hit with a smaller earthquake at a 3.9 magnitude.
Officials from both Ucayali and Ancash regions informed the Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP) of no damages done to property or injuries sustained by locals at the moment during the earthquakes.
The epicenter of the first earthquake was located 69 kilometers from the northeast region of Pucallpa at a depth of 178 kilometers. Off the coast of Ancash, the epicenter was located 86 kilometers southeast of the area at 13 kilometers in depth.
During the earthquakes, many were sound asleep with only a few startled from the tremors felt.
Since the beginning of 2008, Peru has faced 122 earthquakes. In 2007, 191 earthquakes were recorded.
