While U.S. President George W. Bush stays in Lima for the Asian-Pacific  Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, his wife, Laura Bush, will head south to visit Pisco, the town hardest hit by last year’s a massive earthquake that devastated Peru’s southern coast.

Laura Bush is expected to visit the San Clemente Health Center and tour around an adobe housing reconstruction project during her visit today. Afterwards, Mrs. Bush will return to Lima to meet with her husband in the afternoon.

On Saturday evening, President Bush and Mrs. Bush will attend a gala dinner at the Ministry of Defense Convention Center.

Laura Bush's advisors made an excellent choice when they decided on Pisco as a place for her to visit. This trip raises the area's visibility in the eyes of the world and reminds people that many are still suffering in this earthquake-ravaged area. Hopefully it will remind the world that more funds and social services are desperately needed in that area.

She could have picked Machu Picchu or Cusco as a photo-op choice, like many celebrities do. That she agreed to fly to Pisco elevates her in my opinion.

The female dog only went there to attempt to save her image for future historians. The Bushes couldn't care less for the poor... remeber Bush's mother comment's to the victims of Katrina when she saw the poor folks in refugee camps...  "Oh wow these people are better off now then there were before Katrina hit."
