After filing an expansion request to Peru’s transport and communications ministry (MTC) in July, Telmex has been authorized to expand its services nationwide in Peru. # mericorps says :

TelMex in Mexico is terrible, but here in Peru they offer decent service. I hope they force the ignorant worthless managers at Telefonica to shape up or better yet, I hope Telefonica cleans house of the old school and hire professionals to replace them.
I hope Telmex continues their good standard of service they offer here in Lima as they expand.

They told me here in Miraflores they could not install above the 4th floor of any highrise. I hardly call that nationwide. The joke that is Telefonica still has a strangle hold on telcom in Peru.

not really, Telmex has had to fight hard, but they are earning more and more right to compete and I would suggest you check back with them from time to time and sooner or later they will be able to install in your building unless your tennants organization signs and exclusivity deal with Telefonica.
You are right, Telefonica is fighting tooth and nail to continue to keep their hold on the market, and are ignoring their real future, to become competitive in service, quality and price.

I hope the Peru government continues to aggressively allow access to competitive vendors. This TelMex news is great, Telefonica is a stagnant, arrogant monopoly that will only change if forced. The Peru people deserve a first class telecom infrastructure in both price and quality. Right now they have neither.

TelMex and others will hopefully give the citizens of Peru choice and by doing so improve the telecommunication service quality for everyone. When people have choice then the quality of service improves. If my memory serves me correctly, Telefonica was the subject of a governmet inquiry due to their poor reliability for government communications after the 7.9 earthquake in 2007.Add your comment
