Six thousand fans lined up to see Cyndi Lauper

Landing at Jorge Chavez International Airport yesterday afternoon, Cyndi Lauper was surrounded by excited fans eager to welcome her to Peru. The American singer rose to stardom during the 80s when she made some of her most memorable hits like “Time after Time” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

Her first-ever performance in Peru, Cyndi Lauper arrived at the Estadio Nacional where six thousand fans were there cheering for her arrival. She’s currently on tour supporting her latest album Bring Ya to the Brink.

Lauper, who is now 55, danced and sang across the stage, interacting with fans in the front row. While her popularity may not be at her peak, she is still receiving a great amount of support from her fans around the world.

Before going back to her hotel at the Marriott in Miraflores, Lauper spoke to press about her experience so far in Peru.

"I'm tired, but happy. People have been telling me about Machu Picchu but I won't be able to go. I've also been told about Peruvian food and I'm going to try it."

If you missed last night's concert, watch a live clip from the performance on El Comercio.

I think she has been there and done that.  Thought she retired a long time ago? I dont know.... Her music WAS ok, i know she is still a celeb and all, but why did peru want her....  Seems that her era of the 80's is still lingering around...  Girls Just Wanna Have Fun?  Call Me!!  LOL?

Anne, you can't make your point without the "#*%&%"'s?  Be civil.  You will be taken more seriously.  The first sentence in comments such as this leads me to believe that the rest of the comment carries little weight.

Cyndi may be great, but adding 4 letter words to make a point does not cut it. We've got a better words then that in our vocabulary, no?

I saw Cyndi in concert a couple years ago and she totally blew me
away, she's such a great singer and performer
and she sang so many great songs (most I had never heard before). I've seen 100s of concerts and Cyndi's was definitely in the Top 5,
Anyway people really shouldn't have such closed minds.

More big name performers will be performing in Peru as it becomes a first world nation!  I have already observed this over the last couple of years.

Cyndi Lauper's recent concerts got rave reviews in the UK and Europe so she's definitely one of the best ever.

SA,

Big name performers will come here as long as they can make their financial goal, it is the music INDUSTRY afterall, but as far as that suggesting Peru is becomming first world...that is a stretch I do not think can be made.

Peru would have to reform it's very poor standard of business practices and corruption and they do not seem to be making much progress in that matter very fast.

I love this country, but the cultural business mentality will hold it back for decades more.

Filling six thousand seats in Lima is not really a draw for the "big name performers".

Cyndi's Lauper's a just a huge talent!!!,
I mean I've seen 100's of concerts by "big name" artists
and Cyndi's concert was in my top 5, so that should tell you something.

I've seen Cyndi's concerts and many "Big Name" concerts too,
and Cyndi's shows are definitely right up there with the best of them,
The only thing Cyndi doesn't have is the huge ticket prices. :)
