South Korea will make efforts to promote negotiations for a free trade deal with Peru as part of its Foreign Ministry’s goals for 2009.
Last November, Peruvian president Alan García Pérez and his South Korean counterpart Lee Myung-bak announced the start of negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement.
On that occasion, President García noted that this trade deal is part of a comprehensive cooperative partnership “that will enable both countries to benefit from each other."
In turn, the South Korean leader expressed his "admiration" for Peru’s "dazzling" economic growth, which makes it an attractive country to increase investment.
Lee Myung-back arrived in Lima on November 20th to attend the Leaders’ Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
Korea is also seeking to start negotiations with Colombia, the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, India and Turkey.
