Strong quake rocks northern Peru

A strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck just off the coast of northern Peru Monday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The quake, which shook the South American country at 1409 GMT, was centered 124 kilometers (77 miles) northwest of the city of Chiclayo, and 138 kilometers (86 miles) south of Piura, the USGS said.
The epicenter was at a depth of 35 kilometers (22 miles), according to the USGS.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties or major damage.

Dear Editor,Add your commentMy family is spending a couple of weeks vacation in northern Peru. I almost had a heart attack a few minutes ago, because after I saw these news about this recent earthquake I wanted to find out more information so I clicked on your "BREAKING NEWS" column on the right; to find a headline reporting 375 killed and 1500 injured... I got so scared!!! ... but a few seconds later I reacted to see that these headlines were from the 07 earthquake... UFFF!!!Is there anyway you could prevent this from happening to somebody else?I will greatly appreciate your response.Thank you!
