Peru to launch a nanosatellite in 2010.

Andina

Peru’s National University of Engineering (Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, uni) will launch in November, 2010, the first Peruvian nanosatellite into space, which is 10 centimeters (3,94 inches) per side, and will be used to take pictures of earth’s surface for climate, forestry and archaeological research.

The small square-shaped satellite was named "Chasqui I” and manufactured using applied spatial technology capable of withstanding extreme temperatures in space, ranging from -40 to 100 degrees Celsius.

Since there is not a launch pad in Peru, the 2.2-pound nanosatellite will be put into orbit from a foreign country: from the Kursk State Technical University in Russia.

The Peruvian nanosatellite is expected to operate for at least two months in orbit, and once in space, it will be able to completely orbit the earth in only one hour, reported the director of the Center for Communication and Information Technologies of UNI, Doris Rojas.

Cool,

We did the same thing in my engineering class at community college.

I guess that would be a 'nano' prick in your case.

Why dont you tell everybody here what kind people go to US COMMUNITY COLLEGES, LOL!!! Engineering classs  haahhahaha

what's an ******* like you doing in this forum? shouldnt you be doing your community college homework? launching satellites and **** like that?

Nice try, this must be a early April Fools' Day joke.

India has launched a probe to the moon, Chandra...China has done it too...Russia was the space exploration pioneer of the world...The European Space Agency has launched lots of probes to different planets, etc...What about Japan's Soho??? Come on!!
Why do the Americans think that NASA is the only one who can launch these things?
Certainly Peru can launch a nano-satellite....Good for the UNI...Canada is a leader in satellites as well...It is not just the US...

I have had the honour, luck and privilege to meet and talk with real NASA astronauts (as part of my educator work). They are just human...you know...hard working yes,...but Peruvians are humans too, and yes...although we are a third-world country, we can also launch a nano satellite...

Peru is not really launching the satellite b/c they do not have a launch pad. Russia is launching the little bugger. Peru just made a 10cm square box with a transmitter and batteries that will last 2 months.
Tanto technologia!

So our box is being launched...can you even let us celebrate that? ARe you that miserable that you can't let other people pride themselves for even a small achievement...
Science is for everyone..by the way...
THe University here mentioned has extremely intellingent individuals..they lack resources and technologia..that is their biggest problem...FUnny enough, I could not enter this university 22 years ago, I could not solve those math problems...too hard for me...But, when I came to North America I easily got into University here...so much easier, also all of the resources are here...I joined the luckier crowd, where resources and technology are available...The math here was so much easier...

not trying to take anything away from anyone...except maybe the editor or writer. Peru made a satellite. Launching and making are different things. Soooo sensitive. congrats on your satellite.
Go celebrate.

In the news today Peruvians are launching its first Maid into Space. The maid protested that she has to wear her uniform into a public area.

I study Electromechanical engineering at UNI, unfortunately I'm not working on this project but as far as I'm concerned there are several Electronic, Mechatronic Engineering students, and scientists who are currently developing this "cube". I bet it's not as easy as some people say since this little thing costs approximately US$110k, which represents a lot of money for a public university like ours. Thank goodness the university has made agreements with South Korean, Russian, German and American institutions which are helping with the costs of manufacture and are giving technological support to the people working on this.
I have also heard that this project could have been developed earlier if sufficient funds had been available before.
I just hope everything goes well because there's always a risk of failure when it comes to developing projects.
