Chile not to close borders with Peru due to swine flu

Chile's President Michelle Bachelet ruled out closing borders with Peru, remarking that the alleged confirmed case of swine flu in Lima “is yet to be 100% confirmed”.

She also declared that Chile's Ministry of Health is in permanent networking and coordination with their South American counterparts in order to supervise the outbreak's evolution.

Peru's sanitary authorities have declared a “yellow alert”, a measure that includes every health facility in the country, since some other possible cases are still being closely monitored (to determine if they are swine flu or not).

Bachelet announced on Chilean TV and radio that a contingency plan is ready to work against the H1N1 virus, if necessary.

“We need to remain calm, there's not any confirmed swine flu case in Chile” she said.
