Alicorp opens US$50 million fish oil plant in Piura

With an investment of US $50 million, Alicorp opened its Omega 3 fish oil production plant in the northern Peruvian region of Piura.
With this plant, Alicorp aims to meet the demand from the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia.
The project is a partnership with Ocean Nutrition Canada (ONC), one of the world's largest producers of Omega-3 (a healthy food ingredient derived from fish oil).
"This plant directly employs 100 people and will produce 24,000 tons of Omega 3 products per year, and 30,000 tons of purified oil, which will be used by ONC to manufacture nutritional supplements," Alicorp’s general manager, Leslie Pierce, said.
Pierce also emphasized that this plant is the first one in Peru to produce and concentrate Omega 3-rich fish oil.
