According to the Provincial Municipality of Quispicanchi, a total of 40,000 pilgrims are expected to attend the Festivity of the Lord of Qoyllur Rit'i in the Peruvian region of Cusco this year.
This festivity merges the ancient Andean gods with Christian faith, and gathers pilgrims from different parts of the country and even from abroad.
The religious festivity, which is celebrated on June 9th, takes place at over 5,000 m.a.s.l. in the Qoyllur Riti Sanctuary in the Sinakara valley, 170 kms from Cusco.
All activities have been planned in coordination with the Fire Department, Civil Defense authorities, and the National Police in order to ensure the safety of visitors.
