British company Biwater is presenting to Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) a desalination plant project, to support the treatment, supply and storage of drinking water in southern Lima by 2011. # SA says :

It is about time!!!
The Rio Rimac is running dry!!
The Pacific Ocean has a large supply of water for Lima.
All that must be done is the desalination process.
This is indeed a better solution than tunnelling hundreds of miles from the Rio Amazon.
Sadly, I am confident that the Peruvian government will resist doing what is logical and the best solution.

Don't forget that desalinization of sea water to fresh water requires energy. I assume the process will use Camisea and neighboring gas fields. Will the 'uprising' of the native Peruvians stop attempts to fully exploit the natural gas fields? How many years will the natural gas last?Add your comment
What will be the cost of the water to the consumer?
