Visa launches Peru m-payments service; teams with NeuStar

Andina

Visa has teamed with VisaNet Perú and Telefónica to launch its first commercial m-payments service in Latin America.

“Pago Móvil con Visa” (Visa Mobile Pay) will let account holders with credit or debit cards issued by Banco de Crédito, Interbank, BBVA Continental and Scotiabank pay for products and services over the wireless network.

Initially, account holders will be able to use their mobile phone to pay for cab fares and send flower arrangements, as well as to top up their wireless pre-paid account.

Other areas are scheduled to be added, such as deliveries of pharmaceutical products, gas distribution and catalogue orders.

Visa says its service is particularly appealing to merchants in remote regions and to mobile businesses with no access to a wired telecommunications infrastructure because it eliminates the need for a traditional payment terminal.

New natural gas taxi program launched in Peru

  • Lima, May 04 (ANDINA).- A new taxi program plan called "La Mano de Dios" (The Hand of God) has been presented in Peru by the Municipal Credit and Savings Bank of Sullana (CMAC), the Hyundai Group and IRSAGAS.

Enrique Richter, CEO of IRSAGAS, said the plan is expected to benefit about three thousand taxi drivers who will be able to obtain their own new natural gas powered Hyundai, thanks to funding by CMAC - Sullana.

With an initial US$2000 and an appropriate qualification, approved applicants can access a new vehicle under full warranty and with satellite tracking GPS, contributing greatly to the safety of the driver and passengers.

In turn, Joel Siancas Ramirez, Chairman of CMAC - Sullana, reported that the plan is expected to facilitate 50 cars monthly, which will generate new jobs and assist more Peruvians to realize their dream of owning their own business.

"Joel Siancas Ramirez, Chairman of CMAC - Sullana, reported that the plan is expected to facilitate 50 cars monthly"

>>LOL - At 600 cars a year with 200,000 taxis in the city it will take them 300 years to replace all the taxis in Lima.

Juan Rodriguez-

I solicited a quote from TaxiLimaPeru and it was way overpriced.  The quote for a ride from the airport to my hotel was S/.30 more than I ever pay, and I make the trip several times a year, and it was S/.15 more than what the "official airport taxis" charge.

I guess for the unsuspecting tourist the rate is good, but in reality these guys are taking advantage of the naivety of others.

As far as the tours go they may be worth it, but for just a pick-up their asking way too much.  Then again, at the rate I was quoted for what should be a 15-20 minute ride, at most, I can only imagine what they charge for several hours or all day. . . .

Still, I'm not sure how their services have anything to do with the above article.

Sadly, at this point, David N. is the only person that's actually commented on the article itself, and I am in complete agreement with his initial thought.

Geez, doesn't anyone use cash anymore? It's easier to get ripped off using your debit anywhere for anything.

It's even more sadder when people pay for gum or something simple like that with their cards.

I mean, we all don't get allowances from our wives like David N. does but can't you scrape up a little coin? Sheesh.

Yeah I agree about the credit card. Have you ever went for a burger and fries and the guy in front of you whips out the credit card for a happy meal and after 5 attempts and 10 minutes the card won't clear the payment. I do not own guns but where's an Uzzi when you need it. Also I agree with David like 600 cabs a year would make a difference...It's just another feel good political statement. Another ribbon cutting ceremony...

I read the reviews before I solicited the quote.  I'm sure as a tour guide the service is wonderful.  However, I requested a quote for a simple airport pick-up/drop-off and the price quoted was 3x's what I normally pay.

For tourism services, if I were in need, didn't speak Spanish, and couldn't get around on my own, then I would definitely consider these guys.

Still, what does this service have to do with the article?
