The book “Gastón Acurio, 500 years of fusion,” written by the renowned Peruvian cook and edited by El Comercio, was awarded as the best gastronomic book, during the ceremony of the Gourmand Cookbook Awards, the most important in the culinary industry. # David N says :

LMAO, there's ONE chef in this entire country, and he's considered a god down here.
Peruvian food is easy to make -- lots of smashed up beans, chicken, or beef, varying consistency. A healthy dose of MSG. Always, always, always with a heaping mound of white rice, and usually potato.
Actually, the meals in Peru are not balanced well, as most consist of a meat and rice WITH potato. Peruvians don't eat much in the way of green vegetables at all. Lots of rice, french fries, and potatoes on the plates down here. Seafood is pulled from the Pacific ocean off Lima, which is contaminated with raw sewage and can be wormy. Yuck.
A huge percentage of the PE population dies from heart disease, high cholesterol, and cancer. Although I suspect there are so many people dying of cancer down here due to the toxic air over the city, not the starchy and greasy food.

Star last I checked this is a Peruvian web site. Many people are interested in Peruvian food and the fact that Gaston has won another major price.
As for David. He is just a loser and we all know it.

To David NSomehow, although not completely sure, I have the impression that you are from the good old USA living in Peru... who knows for what reason. You don't like the food, the air, the water and, I presume, you don't like the people either. I understand, believe me, that when one is an expatriate he or she is going to find many things in the new country that are different from one's own; some better, some worse. But one adjusts and learns to appreciate the fact that you're being allowed to stay in the country and do what brought you there in the first place.Next year it will be 40 years since I've been residing in the US. I've learned that nothing is gained by criticizing this country's many problems. I do my thing and that's it. But I want to remind you of some of them because your memory seems to be playing tricks on you.I prefer international cuisine over American dishes. I think I've been to a McDonalds two times. This country has the largest percentage of fat people in the world. Overeating is a religion here and I'm not talking only about Thanksgiving. Want to talk about pollution ? Contamination of food and water here is endemic in many cities, as are poverty and poor health for the 45 million or so of uninsured people in this country. In any case, I'm not going to tell you "love or leave it". That's fully up to you. But I don't feel for you and your miserable existence in a country that you obviously despise so much.So long.

All,
dont mind dave the i d i o t!
he loves to be negative. he wants attention. he hates his own life so much that tries to knock everything else down.
it doesn't matter what happens in Peru, he will knock it down.
If bill gates were to stop by lima and give every poor child a million bucks, deve would say something like "this is gonna disrupt the natural economic laws and screw everything up"
so let's ignore this human fart called dave n.
# Thomas Lukins says :

Scott,
Bill Gates giving every poor child a million bucks is a terrible idea. Children? They would have no idea how to handle that kind of money and most would lose it quickly and then be stuck with an unpayable debt.
The parents would probably find a way to steal the money or control it just as bad as the children.
I can see the streets of Peru filled with new Hummers right now. LMAO!

David N - what you write is, for the most part correct. But, so what, no one is forcing you to eat what you dislike. There is certainly no shortage of excellent, fresh fruits and vegetables in many Lima supermarkets or outdoor markets. Peru has much to offer that is very good. Simply, pick and choose what is good for you - so long as you do not offend others. Anyway, that is what I try to do -- often not as successfully as I would like; especially when driving in the Lima area.
# Scott says :
2 July, 2009 [ 10:48 ]
Thomas,
It was an exagerated example to emphasize dave's negative attitude.
Ok so if bill gates builds and modernizes hospitals and schools, dave the fart would say: "we dont need american intrusion".
better now.

I think someone (Dave N) is not happy of living in Peru. What a poor boy! Why did you come here and why are you staying here yet?
Go back to wherever are you come from my dear! We do not need you and it is probably we will not miss you either. Leave us with our non-balanced food, our contaminated sea and our diseases.
We have lived and enjoyed for centuries of this country and we are still alive. I am pretty sure if Gaston does not satisfy your fine taste, someone else in the world will be satisfied.
Thomas: You are so right, a peruvian will say that but not because we would not be grateful for such grant if not it is a shame that our goverment prefers to waste money at improving a city for an international summit, showing the world how developed we are, etc.etc. while in the marginal areas there are kids whose lack of medical assistance and die.

I insist - David is some chrismass claus and does not mean it. I think he is paid to write his comments to make people confuse and write a lot strange comments when ever someone really speaks up- this way the people forget about the really critics- get angry with Clauss and it has the same effect like seeing reports about one artist killing on tv morning news in almost al programs and the endless comments about it and not too much reports about what is really going on. I have my ideas who pay for Claus (but I wont tell you ) - He surely eats in Gaston’s restaurant- the biggest plate with pleasure. Actually I didn’t want to speak about it-but he went what is really good in Peru – the best in the world- our Peruvian foooooood. Here my analyze-(Mike please forgive me, please, please, please ) Claus- around 45-48 years- brown not too much hear, light eyes, eye glasses, and not too slender. And you do have a little pet??? dont you ?If you want you can visit us- we are really curious. Even my husband is up too you and became almost your fan. Really WE WANT TOO MEET YOU. We ARE NOW READY FOR YOU. I AM SO CURIOUS(and all my life curiosity won over concern)

Can someone help me? I ate at Gaston's restaurant in San Francisco ( my office is next to it) and any comments about bad Peruvian food are hollow. Go eat the food and then come back. I want to to try and recreate some of the dishes and Gaston has written books.
Anyway: where can I get books online from Peru? Is there an english speaking bookshop or an Amazon.com for .pe? I see Gaston has a bunch of books available but none of them are available for sale in the US.
There is a guy who sells Latin books in San Francisco but from what I can see he charges 3 times the actual price.
All help appreciated

David - you are intelligent enough to under the following or research what it means.
I radiometrically dated the mineral biotite from the Cerro Payne quartz diorite at 13 +/- 1 million years by the K-Ar method and at 12 +/- 2
million years by the Rb-Sr method [M.Halpern, Regional Geochronology of Chile South of 50 degrees Latitude, Geol. Soc. America Bull., v.84,
1973, pp. 2407-2422.] Torres del Payne is, indeed, a spectacular tourist site as is much of Chile, but this does not mean that there is nothing worth visiting in Peru. I suggest you stop comparing the two countries - they are quite different. As the USA or Canada is very different from many Latino countries. I have little doubt that when you are no longer required to live where your parents are, you will be able to live where you wish.
Why waste your time constantly criticizing Peru when you can use your intelligence in a much more constructive manner.
