At present, six people is the official death toll of the collision that took place last Tuesday near San José de Pacache, on Ucayali River (in eastern Peru) authorities said.
While another 15 people still remain missing, survivors interviewed by CPN radio attributed the collision to heavy fog and to the inadequacy of the lights on one of the vessels, called “Super Salas.”
They also said that the other vessel, called “Milagritos,”
was overloaded.
Specialists from Peruvian Navy will arrive to the place to try to determine the real causes of the accident and establish the responsibilities.
The owner of the “Super Salas,”, Justina Salas, says that the “Milagritos” crew had been drinking alcohol the previous day.
