Peru Rail reported today that it will
suspend its operations on July 8th, in all its routes near Cusco-Machu Picchu and Cusco-Puno, due to the strike that the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) has announced for that day.
Through a press release, Peru Rail states that this decision is a measure of prevention since it some unexpected events that might affect the passengers' travel experience are likely to happen.
The company said it will provide all facilities for the rescheduling the tickets for the day before or after July 8th, if the passengers need it.
For those travelers who can not make their trips on a different date, the company will reimburse them the price of the purchased tickets.
This has also been communicated to travel agents, tour operators and general public.

Tourists should be warned that the already shaky transportation system in Peru is on the verge of a complete breakdown and the government down here is powerless to do anything about it. We now have another strike on it's way. Burning tires in the streets, road blockades, stranded tourists walking for hundreds of kilometers, being victims of crime along the way. The police (PNP) are poorly equipped and unprepared to handle this.
Best to cancel your trips and go somewhere else where there are no riots, tires burning in the streets and gangs of thugs launching throwing rocks and bottles at buses, taking them over in some instances. Even here in the capital of Lima it has gotten very bad. You don't want to be caught in the crossfire.
The government and tourist industry and Peruvians in general down here do not want tourists to know and will not warn you.

Oh, but I am welcome here. YOUR GOVERNMENT GAVE ME THE PAPERWORK TO PROVE IT, AND ARE VERY HAPPY TO HAVE MONTHLY REMITTANCES SENT DOWN HERE, NOT TO MENTION PROPERTY TAXES PAID IN ADVANCE EACH AND EVERY YEAR.
Be warned, visitors to Peru. The posters on this board will not warn you of the dangers in Peru.

BTW, Carlos, the Benevides family doesn't impress ME. Where I come from I've seen you and yours either washing dishes or delivering pizzas, IF they can get the visa.

I agree with Carlos Benavides.
David N is an ignorant American with no class whatsoever, Typical American Redneck living off his Peruvian Wife. I pity the Wife for being so foolish in marrying such a looser. Maybe David N is a criminal or a tax evader hiding in Peru. Well Peru has different rules and sonner or later he will cross the wrong Person. And then David N will be a Pobrecito JAJAJA.

Yeah, tough luck if you saved 3 years for your trip to Peru, with as main destination Machu Picchu, your scheduled train trip to MP now has been cancelled and your tight itinerary does not allow for a trip earlier or later... it's always the same in Peru, you need to schedule extra days in your itinerary just in case the local population decides it is time for yet another day off from work.

Dear America,
Well, there is something that has always bothered me and a lot of my friends, and it has probably bothered a lot of Latin American people too...
Personally, I really hate it when the citizens of the United States of America call themselves "Americans" and that they live in "America". I am really sorry to enlighten you, but your country IS NOT called America, it is called the "United States of America".
America is a continent divided in THREE parts, that would be North America, Central America and South America. Being from Perú (for those who don't know, Perú is a country located in South America), I am also an American, as well as anybody from Chile, Brazil, Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico or Canada, because all of this countries (and more of course) are located in the American continent.
Then, maybe you should call yourselves "North Americans"... Well, that wouldn't be completely right because citizens of Mexico and Canada are also North Americans. In fact, if you did call yourselves "Americans" it wouldn't be completely wrong because your country is located in America.
The problem happens when you use those words ("America" and "Americans") as if they were exclusively designed for you, and that is when people like me get really pissed off and write in pages like this. I don't know what is the problem with your culture, thinking too big of yourselves, as if the whole continent was just a part of your country.
So please, start educating yourselves and stop calling yourselves "America" and "Americans" when you try to refer to the "United States of America" as your country and to your "citizenship" as if you owned the continent because you don't (even if your government sometimes acts as if they owned the world... which isn't true).

Of course I've heard of your family, Carlos. Had to evict some of them from an apartment I owned in San Borja for not paying the rent for 8 months straight. Told me I couldn't treat them that way because they were Benevides. LMAO
Oh, and I'm not from Chile, either, thanks.
