Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mining informed that if Doe Run Peru does not propose a suitable solution laws will have to be obeyed, operations might be halted, since the enviromental clean-up has not been completed.

“We don't want to go to extremes, and we are convinced that Doe Run will present a suitable alternative to satisfy everyone, that is, the company, its suppliers and Peruvian State,” said Peru's Deputy Minister of Mining, Fernando Gala.

He said that after Doe Run Peru has commited to present this alternative proposal today or next Monday at the latest.

“The government is trying to determine ways of not affecting the workers in case that Doe Run does not present a good plan,” he added.

Have to hand to the government; it's just great to choose a slower clean-up process and decent jobs for no clean-up and no jobs.  Very thoughtful.
