Peru's Education Ministry has just officially announced via RadioProgramas del Peru that the mid-year school vacations
will be extended until August 9th, as a way to reduce the spreading of AH1N1 virus among children and youngsters under 18.
“The early start of these vacations has proved effective to reduce the number of cases among school children,” said Peru's Health Minister
Oscar Ugarte yesterday, adding that his portfolio was coordinating with Education's Ministry to decide if vacations were to be extended or not.
With this official announcement, these mid-year vacations –which usually last 2 weeks-- have been extended to 3 weeks, so schools will open again in Monday August 10th.
Raul Diaz Chavez, Deputy Minister of Education, said that the Ministry and the schools will have to reschedule the activities and the classes, so that the children can complete the themes included in their syllabus.
