New species of hummingbird found in Peru's national park

Cesar Sanchez Morales, a scientist from Louisiana State University (US), identified 290 species during his 40-days stay at Cerros de Amotape National Park, in Tumbes region.
During his visit, Sanchez identified for the first time a new species of hummingbird; the “colirrojizo” (red-tail), that had not been registered before.
Sanchez Morales said that he toured 12 towns in the vast area of the Amotape Park such as Campoverde, Caucho and Cerro El Barco, doing this work during the dry season.
With regard to birds, he has identified 60 endemic species, and he took samples that will be analyzed in Peruvian and North American universities.
