It has been a year since the EU signed a short-stay visa waiver agreement with Peru, enabling Peruvians to travel to the EU without requesting a visa for stays up to 90 days.
Such an agreement has been very beneficial for the country and Peruvians have taken advantage of it. Since March 14 of 2016, around 220,000 Peruvians have traveled to the European Union on direct flights; the number has increased by 30% compared to last year's figures when there was no free-entry agreement.
The most favourite destination for Peruvian vacationers in the EU is Spain. More than half of the travelers heading to Europe choose Spain as its top stop, 64%. Following the Netherlands with 20.8% and in third place, France with 11.8%.
According to Eduardo Sevilla, Migrations representative, there has also been an increase of European travelers to Peru in the last year due to the fact that there are more tourist packages, payment facilities and commercial airlines.
Another important fact stressed by Migraciones is that Peru is also becoming a must-go for Europeans. More than 497,000 Europeans visited the country in 2016, 6% more than the previous year.
