The Special Court at the Supreme Justice Court found former Peru's President Alberto Fujimori guilty of the charges of irregular purchase of a media company, bribing congressmen, and wiretapping politicians, journalists and other public personalities, and sentenced him to
six years in jail.
The court also ordered him to pay to the Peruvian state a compensation of more than S/. 24 million soles (about US $8 million dollars) and also S/. 3 million soles (US $1 million) to each one of the victims of wiretapping.
He is from now on legally forbidden to take part in any public activity.
Fujimori and his lawyer said they would appeal the sentence.
