Roger Saya, the Mayor of the disctrict of Ituata in Carabaya province (Puno region) asked Peru's Minister of Internal Affairs, Octavio Salazar,
to send Army troops "in order to avoid a massacre," since the people is attacking the community of Chacayaje since yesterday.
"This people is armed. We request the presence of Army Troops before more tragic events and fatalities take place here," said Saya, as quoted by RadioProgramas del Peru.
Reportedly, Chacayaje and Ayapata people are
disputing about the demarcation of their communities' boundaries, in the Winchumayo area.
Saya remarked that the presence of Army troops is necessary, since at least three persons have already died due to these clashes.
"The attacks continue and we are afraid that a massacre is likely to happen," added Saya.
