British trekkers in a fund-raising expedition in Peru

A group of 27 British trekkers has started a fund-raising expedition through the foothills of the Andes, reaching altitudes of nearly 4,200 metres (14,000 feet) over sea level, on their way to Machu Picchu, in Peru.

The expedition, which organization has demanded months, is gathering sponsorship for the St Giles Hospice, in Lichfield, and aims to collect £50,000.00

The trek started on Friday and will last nine days, and for most of these trekkers it's their first time away from family and loved ones.

St Giles spends £6 million every year providing its specialist services and with less than a third of this funded by the Government, relies heavily on donations and fundraising.

More information about the fundraising campaign can be found here.

Grow up kids! If you cannot afford to be away from your 'families', don't travel. Perhaps Peru should be sending financial assistance to England because from what I read in Peru, the Peruvian economy is in great shape - especially when compared to the UK.

Martin,

Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

They are taking an adventure trip, but instead of just doing so, they are also using it as a chance to raise money for a Hospice.

They are not raising money for themselves, but for people who are about to die in hospice care.  They are not raising money to finance their own travel..each participant pays his or her own travel.

sheesh
