According to PeruPetro President, Daniel Saba, the U.S. oil giant Exxon Mobil Corporation has expressed
an interest in returning to Peru, in order to perform oil exploration and exploitation, since Peru will launch a tender next year.
US based Mobil Oil had already conducted explorations (when it had not yet been joined with Exxon Mobil) with the Anglo-Dutch Shell in Block 88 in Cusco, where Camisea gas fields were discovered, after signing the respective contract in 1996; but in July 1998, the consortium decided not to continue with phase 2 of the contract.
Mobil and Exxon agreed to fuse in 1998 to create Exxon Mobil, in a process which was completed in 1999.
Saba told the press that he meet two weeks ago in Houston with Exxon Mobil representatives, who wanted to know more details about the upcoming Peruvian tender.
Exxon Mobil is one of the main oil companies worldwide, and its related activities are extended over 40 countries.
