Peru launches campaign "Cusco at half-price"

The regional President of Cusco, Hugo González Sayán, announced a half-price campaign, that will offer air fares, hotels and restaurants at half their normal rates to Peruvian tourists.

The campaign is intended to sustain and boost the domestic tourism in Cusco, since Machu Picchu is going to be closed for a few weeks.

The purpose is to promote tourist attractions in Cusco such as Sacsayhuaman, Chincheros Tipon, Puca Pucara, as well as the historical-religious circuit, as well as another places that due to their high costs are usually not available to domestic tourists.

According to the regional authority, the campaign is mainly targeted at domestic visitors, because the citadel of Machu Picchu is still the main destination for foreign tourists.

“The campaign for foreign tourists is stressing that Cusco is still there, and that there are a lot more places to visit, not only Machu Picchu,” said González.

As long as the INC(Instituto Nacional de Cultura) will not give a license to operate helicopters to Machu Picchu to show the world that you want us to come to Peru why waist your time. Machu Picchu is what bring people to Peru. Once we are there we will go other places.

The studies are pretty clear that if they allow helicopter flights to Machu Picchu, it will damage the ruins and the surrounding jungle and in the event of a crash, will result in death and inability to rescue survivors quickly.

The INC is siting a federal law or rebulic law  declairing Machu Picchu and sorounding area a no flight zone.  It is not really in the hands of INC they are only upholding a national Law.  This law was made in late 1999 by Peruvian Congress to insure peace n quite for the vistors of Machu Picchu without aircraft zooming over their heads, as well as what Mericoprs states.

Studys have shown less impact with helecopter then even the train was. I think your study is flawed Mericorps. How long will people have to suffer before you realize the importance of Machu Picchu is to the total ecomomy of Peru. I would love to see other places in Peru but only if I can see Macgu Picchu.....you can find a study that will fit what you want it to.......but....what about the people of Peru?
Shame on INC(Instituto Nacional de Cultura)
