The Second Military and Police Court has issued an arrest warrant against Police Officer Edward Casas, the same who announced that the Police is preparing a strike for April 5.

He is accused of disobedience and mutiny against the Peruvian state, after leading a demonstration on front of the building of the Finance Ministry, reports La República.

Casas told the press that he will seek political asylum in another country, since he perceives that his freedom is being threatened.

The Police Director, Miguel Hidalgo, said that the officers should be aware that they are subjected to the police force's disciplinary code.

On the other side, Remigio Hernani, former Interior Minister, said that the Constitution guarantees the same rights and freedoms to every citizen.

I really do not support this strike until the police department decides to work with the Peruvian Government to clean itself up...that being said, to charge someone with mutiny for protesting in a legal way makes Garcia and his government look week, petty and ignorant.

I married a Peruvian police officer and after she retired, she was legally allowed to vote in your elections only then. She explained to me that protests and voting are not legal for the PNP.Perhaps this was  long before Garcia and others before him took office. The government of Peru doesn't want any disruptions of it's government by the very forces that protect and insure it's security. In America military, police and the branches of our government allow for voting.Police unions can protest regarding their contracts, etc.in an off duty setting. We call this a work strike.Police corruption is certainly more possible in Peru and often the only option because of the poor salaries given to all PNP.Corruption continues in America too,but is less likely because we pay our police good wages.American local, state and federal police are well paid compared to the Latin American countries on adverage.Personally,I believe in organized legal protests and voting for all countries in the world.People with a voice help form a stronger and more honest government. To accuse officer Casas of mutiny is another sad example of a bad law.He broke police code for wanting to speak out against the pay injustices of the PNP.Too often in Peru I see foolish protests,of people blocking roads, setting tires on fire, throwing items, damaging, setting on fire buildings and vehicles, etc. Your mentality needs to change. You need a good plan and strategy to get there.Use better tactics and stop acting like disruptive children.I believe the PNP should have equal rights to protest as the American police have. The American organized unions have gotten their employees pay raises for many years.
