The infestation of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in El Oro – Ecuador, has caused the Regional Staff of Health to declare Tumbes a high risk area due to the proximity. The head of the health department stated that there will be a fumigating campaign throughout the neighborhoods; chemicals will be supplied to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes. Unlike other species, these mosquitoes are active during the day thus increasing the chances of transmitting the disease. Dengue, if not treated, can have severe and fatal hemorrhagic consequences.
