Specialists who were sent to study the activity of this volcano, located near Moquegua, have determined that its crater is expanding due to increased activity. Despite the increased activity experts have concluded that the chance of an eruption is very remote.
Health officials have reported in increase in patients with lung and eye problems due to the volcanic ash that has covered nearby areas. To confront this risk, masks and protective eye wear have been distributed to the local communities by regional officials. Also, authorities from the local Civil Defense group met last night to evaluate the possibility of declaring an orange alert.
