Health | 24 May, 2006 [ 11:17 ]Air pollution a serious problem in Lima
The registered level of air contamination yesterday between 9.00 and 10.00 a.m. at Av. Abancay revealed 205 micrograms of various health endangering particles which is five times over the limit allowed, according to test conducted with modern measurement equipment by the National Council of the Atmosphere (Conam).
Although the particle concentration 'PM10' was reduced to 136 micrograms later around noon, this amount still represents an excess that harms the health of the people in that
neighborhood.
Particles 'PM10' are produced by the high content of sulfur in diesel fuel that is sold in Peru and by the overall bad quality of vehicles which are not put under any technical revisions.
