Latin America | 7 July, 2006 [ 10:42 ]Colombian Foreign Minister describes relations with Peru 'complete and strong'

Colombian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carolina Barco, declared that the relations between her country and Peru are "complete and strong", especially in areas such us security and the coordination and cooperation in information exchange.
She emphasized the existing confidence between both Armed Forces which allows the consolidation of security and the fight against CRAF guerillas.
Economically, she pointed out the increasing bilateral commercial exchange, accompanied by individually signed Free-Trade pacts with the United States which shows a strong mutual economic consensus. She also stressed the support in many areas Colombia received from departing president Alejandro Toledo and the cooperation with Peru on subjects related to the Amazon rain forest, a resource shared by countries which must be handled with care, intelligence and great wisdom due to its potential.
She added that Colombia welcomes the affable proposals of Peru's president-elect Alan Garcia for Chile's return to the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) as an active member which will stabilize the Union.
“In this world of globalization the relations and integration between our countries in this region is fundamental”, she explained.
